DE Everson Griffen making changes to be a Viking for the long run

Vikings DE Everson Griffen is back a month early and putting in the work to have a big year in 2011-12. Normally, this wouldn’t be newsworthy but I figured it was worth writing about because up until now Griffen has made more headlines in the offseason than regular season. Griffen was arrested for public intoxication and a week later for resisting arrest after police found his driver’s license to be expired. He followed it up by throwing a Las Vegas Facebook Superbowl party that, while it may not have been too controversial, at the time was ill-advised.

It sounds like Griffen is doing and saying all the right things. Lets hope he can follow through with them. Don’t get your hopes up too high as the reason the Vikings were able to draft Everson in the 4th round even though he was a 1st round talent is that he seems to lack work ethic, desire, and passion. Is Frazier can motivate him it could really help a weak pass rush rotation that is most likely losing Boxing Pro Ray “Jump Offsides” Edwards.

Quotes from Griffen’s interview with the Pioneer Press: “I had a little rough stretch, coaches want me back, and that’s the place for me to be. That’s not me at all. I’m just trying to make changes. I’ve got big years coming up. I’m just trying to show the Minnesota Vikings I’m here for good.”

What Frazier said to him: “He said, ‘Know what you’re here for, I’m here to play football. I’m here to represent the Minnesota Vikings, and I want to represent them in a good way, not a bad way.”
