The Twins win their third consecutive series behind Liriano’s bid for his second no-hitter of the season.

Liriano had a perfect game heading into the 7th inning but with one out Luke Hughes tried to backhand a ball headed toward third base and the ball deflected toward the Ranger’s dugout. After review of the replays the official scorer ruled the play an error which allowed Elvis Andrus to reach second base. Despite the error Liriano continued on his quest for his second no hitter of the season. In the bottom of the seventh Valencia hit a ball that hit pitcher Matt Harrison in the triceps which caused him to leave the game with an injury. After that the Twins’ bats came alive as they scored five runs including a 3-run home run from Michael Cuddyer making the score 6-0 and giving Liriano a big cushion. Liriano came back out for the 8th inning and pitched 3 straight balls to Adrian Beltrae possibly showing he had cooled down after the long bottom of the 7th. On the fourth pitch, Beltre hit a single to shallow left center and broke up the no-hitter. Liriano completed 8 innings allowing one earned run on 2 hits with 9 Ks. Alex Burnett pitched a scoreless bottom of the 9th. The Twins finished the game with 6 runs on 9 hits highlighted by Cuddyer’s home run and Luke Hughes going 3-4 with an RBI bringing his average up to .270 on the season. Alexi Casilla also continued his hot streak by going 2-3 with a run and an RBI. See the full Yahoo! Box Score here. You can see Gardenhire’s post game reaction from Fox Sports North here.
