For some people it’s all about the Benjamins, that seemed to be the case for Sidney Rice who will follow the natoriously bad Tarvaris Jackson to Seattle.

What will this mean for the Vikings?  There are a few options they will explore.  They can stay as is, and let Bernard Berrian and Devin Aromashodu battle it out for the number 2 spot behind Percy Harvin.  The second option would be just to fill with some mid-level recievers, the classic Viking “band-aid solution”.  However, the way Rick Spielman and Leslie Frazier have shown they want to run this team I don’t see those as the likely scenario.  Watch for Spielman to try to obtain a new toy for Donovan McNabb to throw to, as we all saw what happened when McNabb’s only target is a short speed reciever (Santana Moss).  Braylon Edwards, James Jones, and Malcolm Floyd all seem like good options.

Edwards seems to be the most accomplished of this particular group of receivers, and has had a good couple of seasons despite the fact that the QBs throwing to him in his career haven’t been all that impressive (Trent Dilfer, Derek Anderson, Brady Quinn, and Mark Sanchez).  Sadly Sanchez appears to be the best.  Edwards might even enjoy coming back to the midwest where he dominated as a Wolverine in his college days.  Edwards has 326 rec for 5,142 yards in his career with 39 TDs.

James Jones is the one guy from this group with a Superbowl ring; however, it is quite apparent that he was a small part of that.   Jones also had Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball, and too often NFL fans have seen guys with great numbers with a great quarterback fail elsewhere (See most ex-colt recievers, or see Bill Schroeder or Sidney Rice without Brett Favre).  Jones has 149 rec for 2,069 yards in his career with 13 TDs.

Floyd is another interesting option.  Everyone seems to love Philip Rivers;his big arm, his passion to win, and the fact that he’s put up great numbers with lesser known recievers around him.  Floyd is 6’5″ 225 lbs, and seems to be the best option for Minnesota.  He won’t cost the Vikings as much as Edwards or possibly Jones would cost them and also seems to be the same type of reciever as Rice.  Floyd has 134 rec for 2,314 yards in his career with 15 TDs.
