As expected the Twins have declined their option on Joe Nathan for the 2012 season. Nathan would have made $12.5M next season but the Twins have decided to pay the $2M buyout and decline the option. Despite this news the Twins are expected to be in close contact with Nathan in hopes of re-signing him to a new contract. This year’s market for closers is fairly deep so the competition may not be as strong as it has been in the past. This could be a good sign that the Twins and Nathan may be able to get a deal done.
