The Timberwolves are close to reaching terms with free agent point guard JJ Barea. The deal is not official but could be completed Tuesday. The deal is for 4 years and worth $19M. Barea will likely backup rookie point guard Ricky Rubio this season and provide some veteran leadership on the team. Barea is an undersized point guard but he doesn’t turnover the ball and he can slash through defenses and score points. Barea also provides the Wolves another Spanish speaking player to possible help Rubio adjust to the United States and NBA game. This could put backup point guard Luke Ridnour on the trade block for the Wolves.
