The Wild passed Brad Staubitz through waivers in recent days and today he has cleared. He has had a lackluster season for the Wild this year, taking a lot of bad penalties and not being the gritty enforcer he is expected to be. The winger will be assigned to Houston but the Wild’s GM Chuck Fletcher has been shopping him around the league. One team that may be interested is the Columbus Blue Jackets. Former Wild coach Todd Richards, now with Columbus, likes Staubitz and may be interested in adding him to the roster. But the question is why they didn’t just claim him off waivers. He is owed only about $250k for the rest of the season so if a team really wanted him they could have claimed him for nothing. For now he will be payed his NHL salary down in Houston.
