Tomorrow morning (Thursday), the White Earth Tribe will announce a metro-area casino plan that will fully finance a new Vikings stadium without any new taxes. This comes from a Star Tribune story and more information can be found on the tribe’s “Minnesota Wins” website. The construction of the new Casino would also create 2,000 new permanent jobs. Personally, I think this plan is overdue. A casino allows current tax players to remain happy and food and alcohol already are taxed pretty heavily. Plus, unlike most casinos, the state would regulate and audit it. After the stadium is paid off the revenue would continue to go to the state and could solve similar issue in the future (Target Center renovations come to mind).
