Coming up court in the second half of the victory over the Trail Blazers, Minnesota’s backup point guard Jose Juan Barea re-sprained his left ankle that kept him out of 7 games in January. This is bad news for multiple reasons. The first, and most obvious, is that they will be without their primary backup as they continue to fight to stay in the playoff hunt. Secondly, this essentially kills any and all rumors regarding a Ridnour for Crawford swap. Minnesota will want to keep a capable ball handler and Luke Ridnour is the best bet. Michael Beasley is still an option to be moved as the deadline nears. He too has been involved in many rumors, most notably with the Los Angeles Lakers. Barea has missed 17 of the Wolves 40 games this year with various injuries (one was for the birth of his first child).

On the other hand, this most likely means the call up of Malcolm Lee from the D-League. Lee was re-assigned to the Sioux Falls Skyforce on February 29th to get more playing time but now could be needed if Barea’s absence is lengthy.
