Jason Marquis missed the final two weeks of spring training to attend to a personal matter at his home. His daughter was in a serious car accident and Marquis needed to be home with her and his family. Not knowing how long he would be away, the first thought was that he would start the year on the bereavement list. Instead he returned before spring training ended and after the Twins set their roster and rotation. Since he will not be in full form for another couple weeks they have decided to send him to the minors to make a couple starts and re-join the team in mid April. Marquis has one option remaining but because he is a veteran he had to agree to be sent down to start the year. He will start off in Double-A New Britain. The Twins do not need a fifth starter til April 15th because of a well placed off day after the 4th game so you can expect that he will re-join the team around that date.
