With the Vikings 2nd pick in the 4th round they decided to add more depth to their TEs by picking USC’s Rhett Ellison. The first thing that pops out about Ellison is his versatility. He lined up at USC as a TE, fullback, and even some wide receiver. The next thing you might notice is his size. Ellison is a behemoth at 6’5″, 250 pounds. The Vikings made quite a splurge on acquiring fullbacks this off-season so I would assume Ellison projects mainly as just a tight end. There is not much depth behind Kyle Rudolph and newly signed John Carlson. Don’t expect much playing time or contribution from Ellison this upcoming season but I am sure that Spielman liked his versatility and athletic ability. Here are some of his strengths and weaknesses.
