Twins former MVP Justin Morneau has battled injuries the last couple of seasons, and it appears that last night it started again for him.

Morneau left the game with “wrist soreness” on the wrist that he had surgically repaired. This isn’t good news for the Twins, even though Morneau hasn’t batted well (.239 with a .313 on-base percentage). The Twins who are already struggling this year don’t need any more help to reach the bottom.

Last night Morneau flew back to Minnesota to meet with team doctors which is a bad sign as last night’s game was just one of six on their West Coast road trip. The Twins recalled Drew Butera from Triple-A to fill the role as the backup catcher, presumably allowing Mauer to get time at first base and DH while Morneau is out of the line-up. One of the 13 pitchers on the roster will likely get optioned to Triple-A to make room on the roster for Butera. We’ll keep you up-to-date about Morneau’s injury as we find our more info.
