Apparently Christian Ponder has been extremely excited about the drafting of LT Matt Kalil, USC, everyday since the Thursday night’s draft.

Ponder told Andrew Siciliano of NFL Network in an interview that he can see himself growing old in the NFL, with apparently Kalil at his side (presumably his left side). This would be great news for the Vikings who haven’t had a young QB/LT tandem in recent memory, where both players were talented (sorry T-Jack).

“I haven’t stopped smiling since that Thursday night of the draft,” Ponder said. “I’m definitely excited that we picked up Matt and he’s already impressed me. He’s come into these OTAs and he’s working hard. He’s a big guy, he’s really athletic and he’s going to do a great job. Obviously he did really well at USC and he’s going to continue that and be really good in the NFL. Hopefully we have 10-15 years together with the Vikings.”

The Vikings still have a big uphill battle coming into this season, but the Vikings on paper look drastically improved. The additions of Jarius Wright, Greg Childs, John Carlson, Geoff Schwartz, and Kalil on offense alone should be enough of a sign to show that the Vikings are moving in the right direction.

Now all that remains to be seen is how quickly these guys catch on, how well Adrian Peterson comes back from his knee injury, and if they can get a few bounces to go their way (like Joe Webb’s fumble/facemask bounce).
