While the Vikings continue to work and fight to secure a new stadium, the Packers have opened up the sale of their “common stock” to our friends across the border. The cover of packers.com has the headline “Passion Knows No Bounds” and well, apparently, idiocy doesn’t either. I read over the offering document and it is filled with statements saying that this piece of paper has no value whatsoever. In fact, here is a quote from the very first page,

“COMMON STOCK DOES NOT CONSTITUTE AN INVESTMENT IN “STOCK” IN THE COMMON SENSE OF THE TERM. PURCHASERS SHOULD NOT PURCHASE COMMON STOCK WITH THE PURPOSE OF MAKING A PROFIT”

So rejoice Canadians because now you can slap down $250 for a valueless piece of paper (plus a $35 shipping and handling fee for Canadians, $25 for US Citizens. That is one heavy piece of paper). The Packers have essentially found a legal way of printing money. They have nothing from stopping them from doing this same maneuver every 5 years to secure more money for various expansions. The question then will be how long do fans keep forking over their money for a piece of paper easily replicated with a quality printer and Microsoft Word. On a completely unrelated note, you can now purchase “common stock” of this site. Click the email link to the right and send us your credit card numbers. We also accept gold, silver, and cash.
